Andris Poga


Andris Poga has been the music director of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) since the season of 2013–2014.

Highlights of recent seasons have included concerts with the leading orchestras of Germany, France, Italy, Japan and other countries. After the first successful collaborations he has been invited back to the NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokyo, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester Hamburg, WDR Symphony Cologne, Munich Philharmonic, Deutsches Symphonie- Orchester Berlin, Dresden Philharmonic, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. He has also conducted the Wiener Symphoniker, SWR Symphony Orchestra in Stuttgart, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Saint Petersburg Philharmonic, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Orchestre National de France, Shanghai Symphony and Sydney Symphony among many others.

In June 2019, the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra in Norway announced the appointment of Andris Poga as its next chief conductor, effective with the 2021-2022 season.

The season of 2019/2020 includes his debuts with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Gothenburg Symphony, Copenhagen Philharmonic, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, and at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. Returns to the Oslo Philharmonic, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, Hamburg Symphony, RAI Torino and Hong Kong Philharmonic.

In 2010, Andris Poga won the First Prize of the Evgeny Svetlanov International Conducting Competition, which thrust him into the international scene. He became an assistant to Paavo Järvi at the Orchestre de Paris, working with him from 2011 to 2014, and from 2012 to 2014 he worked as an assistant conductor for the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Andris has graduated the conducting department of the Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music. He also studied philosophy at the University of Latvia and conducting at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts.

En usedvanlig sympatisk personlighet, gode evner til kommunikasjon og oppmuntring, skarpe ører og omfattende kunnskaper er noen av kvalifikasjonene Poga medbringer. Jeg tror han kan ta et orkester som allerede lenge har vært i rivende utvikling, i nye og spennende retninger, også repertoarmessig. Kontrastene var store i kveld – i stilepoker, og med nærmest kammermusikalsk besetning før pause og den feiteste orkesterlyden vi har hørt siden korona etterpå.
