Biography

Bohdan Luts came to international attention in the spring of 2022 as winner of the violin category in the Carl Nielsen International Competition in Odense where he was also the youngest competitor and winner of the Junior Jury prize. He was praised as much for his musical insight and maturity as for his intensely characterful, individual playing.

Bohdan was born in Ukraine and began playing the violin at the age of six. He studied at the Krushelnytska Music School in Lviv, at the Lysenko Music School in Kiev and at the International Menuhin Music Academy. His teachers have included Oleg Kaskiv, Renaud Capuçon, Olga Korinets, Yaroslava Kataryna and Maria Futorska and he has participated in master-classes with violinists including Pinchas Zuckermann and Gábor Takács-Nagy. He has played with the Lviv National Symphony Orchestra and the INSO Orchestra and has participated in the Gstaad Menuhin Festival and the Bellerive Music Festival as well as giving recitals in Ukraine, Switzerland and Italy. He is soon to record the Nielsen Violin Concerto with the Odense Symphony Orchetra for the British label Orchid Classics.

Bohdan is a laureate of the Lipizer International Violin Competition (Third Prize), the Il Piccolo Violino Magico International Competition for Young Violinists (Second Prize), the Lviv Virtuoso International Violin Competition (Grand Prize) and the Dolný Kubín International Violin Competition (Grand Prize).
