Gudrun Dahlkvist

A breath of fresh air on the conducting scene, Gudrun Dahlkvist studied in Stockholm and Paris and has over a decade of high-level professional experience on the Swedish and French music scenes. Still under 30, she is an orchestral leader to watch.

Gudrun has conducted the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra and Norrköping Symphony Orchestra in professional engagements (both of which she will return to) and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in masterclasses. Her rapidly spreading reputation has led to recent bookings from the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Nordic Chamber Orchestra, Gävle Symphony Orchestra and Östgöta Wind Orchestra.

Gudrun was born in Stockholm and studied violin at the Royal College of Music in her native city and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, before beginning her conducting studies in Sweden with B. Tommy Andersson. As a freelance violinist, she appeared in a concertmaster position with the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, while regularly guesting with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic. Gudrun is also a member of the string orchestra O/Modernt Chamber Orchestra which plays very special concerts all over Europe – all providing vital context and experience for the launch of her conducting career.

Adding to her burgeoning experience with symphony orchestras, Gudrun recently made her professional opera debut at Höga Kusten Opera in Margareta Hallin’s Miss Julie, which was followed by a Gala Concert in Vattnäs Concert Barn featuring soloists Anna Larsson, Göran Eliasson, Maja Frydén and Simon Petersson. Her repertoire ranges from early to contemporary music and her varied experience in professional orchestral settings has equipped her with unusually sharp communicative abilities and taught her efficient rehearsal strategies.

In 2019, Gudrun was awarded Musik i Linköping’s biennial Crusell Stipend for a conductor of extraordinary talent. She signed to Nordic Artists Management in 2020.
