Jacob Skov Andersen

Jacob Skov Andersen is establishing himself as a versatile and charismatic young tenor. He has significant professional experience following work with the Royal Danish Theatre, the Copenhagen Opera Festival and Operetta Company Polyhymnia. Jacob currently studies at the Opera Academy of the Royal Danish Theatre where his teacher is the Academy’s Principal, Anne Margrethe Dahl.
Recently Jacob has sung the roles of Young Sailor and Shepherd in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde at the Royal Danish Opera conducted by Lothar Koenigs. He appeared as a singing actor in Kasper Holten’s award-winning production of Amadeus for the Royal Danish Theatre and in the current season sings Gastone in La Traviata. Upcoming will be the role as Leander in Maskarade at Helsingør Chamber Opera and Luke in The Handmaid’s Tale – the latter in John Fulljames’s twentieth anniversary staging of Poul Ruders’ piece at The Royal Danish Opera.
In 2019, Jacob sang his first professional Rodolfo in Natascha Metherell’s production of La Bohème for Copenhagen Opera Festival. That same year he was the recipient of the Roager Foundation’s 2019 talent award as well as Edith Allers Mindelegat. For Operetta Company Polyhymnia, he sang the principal role of Prince Paris in Offenbach’s La belle Hélène. Jacob is also an experienced oratorio and concert soloist, with a repertoire including Rossini's Petit Messe Solennelle, Mozart's Requiem, Haydn's Stabat Mater and Handel's Messiah.
Seasons 2020-21 / 2021-22 Jacob will be contracted at the 2-year Young Artist Programme at Royal Danish Opera.
Jacob started his career at the age of nine, when he was admitted to the Sankt Annæ Gymnasium choir school in Copenhagen and consequently spent several years as a member of the Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir. In addition to his training in Copenhagen, Jacob studied privately with former Guildhall School of Music and Drama professor Susan McCulloch, and with the acclaimed Cuban tenor Reinaldo Macias.
