Biography

Danish opera singer Jacob Skov Andersen (b. 1990) was born and raised in Copenhagen. His musical career started at the young age of 9 when he was admitted to the singing school Sankt Annæ Gymnasium. Consequently, several years as a boy singer followed in the Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir, which cemented his interest in singing and music.

In the summer of 2022 he graduated from the Royal Danish Theater’s new and prestigious 2-year Young Artist Program, where he already has had a big success on singing Tamino in Die Zauberflöte and Don Ottavio in ‘Don Giovanni’ and as the leading part Pierre in Intet by D. Bruce, for which he was awarded the Reumert prize award as Singer of the year 2021.

From the 2022/23 season Jacob has become a member af the solist-ensemble at the Royal Danish Theater. In the first season he will take on the roles of Kudriash in Katja Kabanova, Luke in Handmaid’s Tale of P. Ruders, Alfredo in La Traviata and Ferrando in Cosi fan Tutte.

Jacob Skov Andersen has already sung several roles on the Danish opera scene: In the summer of 2021 he made a critically acclaimed debut as Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly at Operaen i Svendborg. In February 2020 as Leander in C. Nielsen’s Maskarade with Helsingør Chamber Opera, and in August 2019 he had his debut as Rodolfo in G. Puccini’s beloved masterpiece La Boheme at Copenhagen Opera Festival 19’.

In the 2019/2020 season he had his soloist debut at the Royal Danish Theater in the roles of: Stimme eines Jungen Seemannes and Ein Hirt in Tristan und Isolde by R. Wagner and Gastone in La Traviata by G. Verdi.

Jacob often performs as a soloist in opera concerts and oratorios, and he has among others sung the tenor part in: Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with Danmarks Underholdningsorkester, Rossini's Petit Messe Solenelle with Ensemble Storstrøm, in Mozart's Requiem, in Haydn's Stabat Mater and several times in Händel's Messiah.

He studied with singing teacher and principal Anne Margrethe Dahl, and has as well studied privately with the internationally recognized tenor Reinaldo Macias and former professor at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama Susan McCulloch.

Jacob Skov Andersen is the recipient of the Roager Foundation’s 2019 talent award, Edith Aller’s memorial Scholarship 2019 and Editor Hans Voigt’s memorial Scholarship 2020/2021.
