Biography

Jiyoon Lee is the recent 1st prize winner of the Carl Nielsen Violin Competition 2016, the 1st prize winner of the 5th Windsor International String Competition in Windsor, UK(2015) and 13th David Oistrakh International Violin Competition in Moscow, Russia(2013).

After her success in Moscow, she was invited to play in numerous concerts. Highlights among her recent and forthcoming solo engagements include performances with Philharmonia Orchestra (Jac van Steen), Orchestre National de Belgique(Marin Alsop), ECCO Ensemble and Indianapolis symphony orchestra, Navarra Symphony Orchestra and Orquestra de Camara Galicia, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and Korean Symphony Orchestra.

Her talent has been proved through numerous international competitions and prizes in Indianapolis violin competition in United Sates, Verbier Festival in Switzerland, Sarasate International Violin Competition in Spain, Kloster Schöntal international violin competition in Germany. Most recently, she became one of the laureates in prestigious Queen Elisabeth International Competition in Belgium.


She regularly takes part in international music festivals such as Verbier Music Festival in Switzerland, Windsor Festival in

UK, Kronberg Music Academy in Germany. As a soloist and a chamber musician, Jiyoon has performed at venues such as the Wigmore Hall, Tonhalle Zurich, Bozar Brussels, Bolshoy Hall, Seoul Art Center, Konzerthaus Berlin.

Born in 1992 in South Korea, Jiyoon comes from a musical family. She has studied with Nam-Yun Kim at the Korean National University of Arts in Seoul and is currently studying with Prof. Kolja Blacher at Hochschule für Musik ‘Hanns Eisler’ in Berlin, Germany.

Since February 2014, Jiyoon is a recipient of Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben in Hamburg and plays on ‘Petrus Guarnerius anno 1730 Venedig’.
