Biography

Icelandic Baritone, Jóhann Kristinsson is a recipient of numerous awards. He won the prestigious Stella Maris Vocal Competition in September 2019 and received the Jury Award from Wiener Musikverein. He also won the third prize and audience prize at the International Vocal Competition "Das Lied" in Heidelberg and reached the finals in the Robert Schumann Competition.

Jóhann studied with Prof. Scot Weir at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin and graduated with a masters degree in 2017 with distinction. During his studies, he receiYed guidance from Thomas Quasthoff, Júlia Várady, Thomas Hampson, Graham Johnson, Deborah Polaski and Giacomo Aragall. He was a member of the International Opera Studio of the Hamburg State Opera until 2019 and has since then been a regular guest at the house.

Jóhann has worked with prominent conductors, such as Herbert Blomsttedt, Bertrand de Billy, Kent Nagano, Christoph Poppen, Toshiyuki Kamioka and Stefano Ran]ani. He has performed with the BaYarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Copenhagen Philharmonic, the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, the Basque National Orchestra, at the Icelandic Opera, the Hamburg State Opera, with the Icelandic Symphony Orchesra, the Staatskapelle Halle and the Bamberg Symphony. He has performed at festivals such as Heidelberger Frühling Music Festival, the Schubertiade in Hohenems, Oxford Lieder Festival and Whe Dresden Music Festival.

Next Season, Jóhann will sing in Brahms masterpiece Ein deutsches Requiem under the baton of Kent Nagano in the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. He will appear with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra As Papageno in Mozart's Magic Flute, in Mahlers Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and in the orchestra's annual Viennese new year's concert. He will also perform Schuber's Mass No. 6 with the Swedish Radio Orchestra, which will be conducted by Sir Andris Schiff.

In 2023, he will release a CD of Des Knaben tunderhorn which he recorded with pianist Ammiel Bushakevitz.

Jóhann signed to Nordic Artists Management in 2019.
