Biography

Danish soprano Sofie Lund-Tonnesen is one of the new interesting young singers emerging from the Royal Danish Opera Academy. Sofie has a beautiful and flexible light lyric coloratura soprano with a pleasant blend of warm and bright colours in her sound.

Sofie has finished her master’s degree at the Royal Danish Opera Academy where she already participated in several productions. One of the productions was the success Amadeus, which last season played at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, directed by Kasper Holten. Sofie has a preference for the modern repertoire, and has sung music by Hans Werner Henze, Thomas Adès, and the Danish composer Ib Nørholm. Furthermore, Sofie has performed as a soloist in Händel’s Messiah, Bach’s Christmas Oratorium, etc.

Her recent and future engagements include Mendelsohn’s Midsummer’s Dream with Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, Nanetta in Verdi’s Falstaff and Waldvogel in Wagner’s Siegfried at Den Ny Opera, Esbjerg.

In September 2020 she has started studying at the Royal College of Music at the Artist Diploma in Opera course as a scholar.

In 2017 she received the Augustinus foundation 75th anniversary scholarship, which was granted especially talented musicians.
