Lars Anders Tomter in Focus
Norwegian violist Lars Anders Tomter will shortly perform and record Poul Ruders' Concerto for Viola and Orchestra with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and chief conductor Marc Soustrot. The recording of such a seminal work by one of Denmark´s leading composers with such a strong ensemble of artists is eagerly anticipated in Denmark.
This caps an autumn which has seen Lars receiving the highest of accolades for his 1995 recording of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante with Iona Brown and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. In October´s issue of Gramophone Magazine, Roger Wigmore discusses and chooses his 20 best recordings of the work dating as far back as 1951 with Stern and Primrose. He writes: "Forced to choose an outright winner, as the rules demand, I'll plump for Iona Brown and Lars Anders Tomter with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra in 1995", and he sums up: "Superbly matched soloists and lithe ensemble playing in a joyous performance mingling subtlety of detail with a natural Mozartian flow. The Andante is profoundly moving in its subtlety and restraint".
